I started these classes with a demo, painting background first and then painting sunflowers. I was able to paint ones of the sunflowers, and the class was anxious to try it themselves. I finished the painting at home and brought it to the next class.

As everyone painted a their sunflowers, I went around to each person, helping them with various techniques and ideas. This exercise really gave me a good idea as to the level of skill of each student. Beginners need much more help, and it gave me a better idea of what I need to do next session. Towards the end of the class everyone was getting a better feel for the flower know and the Sunflower.

One of the students, Val, brought in a painting she had done in class. She matted and framed it, using an idea that I had given her to showcase her painting. I snapped a picture, not realizing that the window opposite was reflected in the glass of her picture. Anyway it looked wonderful framed and it's moments like this that really make being a teacher so rewarding.
